The hip desk debt

Sitting is a loan the hips take against the lower back, and the interest compounds by Friday. Two lunges a day keep the terms civil.

Pay the debt at lunch and evening

A low lunge with hands on the chair, thirty seconds each side at lunch and again in the evening, addresses the front of the hip where the desk’s debt actually accrues. Six slow breaths if counting helps, which it does.

The movement is modest because the debt is daily; small payments suit small loans, and the hips keep excellent books.

Soften the chair itself

A rolled towel at the seat’s back edge, feet flat, and a stand-up call habit reduce the borrowing at source. The best stretch is the one made unnecessary, a principle this journal will defend at length.

On hard weeks, the payments shrink rather than stop: one lunge, held longer, at the day’s end. The hips accept consistency in any denomination.
